Shake your Pom Poms - How to make tissue paper pom poms

Unappologetically feminine, and well, camp as Christmas, is the beloved tissue paper Pom Pom. Adorable, right? Let's just say they're an acquired taste which Red doesn't possess. Upon seeing me filled to the brim with girlish glee, sat among the poms, he looked at me, shook his head and left the room. Haterz gone hate.

You will needs; tissue paper, scissors, string and a cup of tea. Remove your tissue paper from the packet and lay out flat. Begin folding the tissue paper in a concertina style, as if making a fan. When you reach the end, tie string around the middle so you're able to hand your little poms of wonder. Now snip the ends of the tissue paper into a nice curve like so...

Begin by lifting the first layer of the tissue paper up on one side, pulling it gently towards the middle. Gently is the operative word here, think gentle lady fingers not Edward Scissorhands...

Keep gently bringing other layers towards the middle on the opposite side of the pom, like this..

When you've pouffed (technical term) half of the tissue, flip the pom over and do the same thing on the other side.

Pouff away and soon you'll be left with something like this...

Tease the tissue a bit so there isn't a line separating them...

And there you have your Elton John decoration, one big lovely puff.

Some may say this looks like what you may wash with in the shower, but ignore them, look how pretty!

I looped the string around the antlers which hang, pride of place in our lounge and tied a knot. I may have got a tad carried away and made a whole batch of pom poms, which I'm slowly introducing to the flat so Red won't notice.

They make lovely, and slightly strange decorations, good if your real flowers have died and mark very girly territory in a gender neutral home, sorry Red. My sister has asked me if I'll make a bunch for her wedding, to hang suspended, which should look cool, so I won't put the scissors away just yet.
